Puppies left the house

Mr. Red went to live in Holland with Wijnand Bles and his family. (http://www.dutch-newfoundlander.nl)

Mr. Orange will be living in France at kennel 'Etoile de Cyrice'. (http://www.etoiledecyrice.fr)

The others will go to the US when they get a little bit older, they are staying at Danielle and Jan's until they leave. (http://www.newfoundlander.be)

And Ms Lila will be staying with us and will be called Grace. We decided to keep her because she's a very special girl. Unfortunately, she has one kidney that doens't function the way it should, so the bad kidney has to be removed and her urethra has to be replaced. That's much to go through for such a little babygirl and she will have to recover for a while. That is the main reason why we decided to keep her, so we can take very good care of her.

I'll let you all know when the surgery will take place, so you can all spend that day putting your thumbs up! ;)

Vaccination

Today is vaccination-time! Hope they will all do good and not get sick of the shots they got.

Time for something new

After eating out of bottles for three weeks now, yesterday it was time for something new!

Het duurde even voor ze allemaal doorhadden hoe het werkte, maar al bij al deden ze het erg goed voor die eerste keer! Maar ze deden 's avonds nog veel beter:

We all opened our eyes!

All the puppies opened their eyes yesterday! They're 2 weeks old now, so their development is right on schedule! ;)

I think they got the feeling that this 'eyeopening-thing' is rather weird, because they were screaming all night long... Maybe it's all going a bit fast for them: starting to walk, opening eyes and ears... it's a tricky job and they get overwhelmed, I think.

Pitty though you cannot see their open eyes on the pictures.

Al de puppy's hebben gisteren hun oogjes geopend! Ze zijn nu twee weekjes oud en dus zitten ze op het juiste 'groeischema'!

Al hebben wij nu wel de indruk dat het voor hen een beetje raar is, ineens al die veranderingen: beginnen stappen, oogjes en oortjes openen... 't gaat allemaal snel en ze geraken daardoor een beetje uit hun gewone doen (vannacht hebben ze de hele nacht gemekkerd en gejammerd). Ach, 't is allemaal niet zo gemakkelijk hé, zo snel een grote Newfy worden, en dan is het wel normaal dat ze een beetje overstuur raken.

Spijtig genoeg kan je hun open oogjes niet zo goed zien op de foto's.

One week old

At this exact moment the puppies are with us for a week. Underneath you see a picture of Mona feeding her babies for the first time and the way Viggo and Shaggy look at this attraction. This picture was taken the first evening the puppies are here. Could those boys be any cuter and sweeter?

Vandaag zijn de puppy's een week bij ons. Hieronder zie je de foto waar Mona voor het eerst haar baby's eten geeft en de manier waarop Viggo en Shaggy dit schouwspel aanzien. De foto dateert van de eerste avond dat de pups hier zijn. Die jongens zijn toch echte schatten, he!?

Gaining weight and being SUPERcute

All puppies are doing great! They gain a lot of weight each day and they get bigger and bigger!

Sad news

One of the puppies didn't make it through the night. Our pink babygirl was already the smallest of the crowd and yesterday she choked in some of her milk. We raced her to the vet and she got three shots in the evening and then she seemed to be a little better, but at midnight she passed away. Farewell, little pinkie!

Eén van de puppy's heeft de nacht niet overleeft. Ons Rozemieke was de kleinste van de hoop en gisteren heeft ze zich verslikt in wat melk. We zijn nog 's avonds met haar naar de dierenarts gereden en daar heeft ze drie spuitjes gehad, daarna deed ze het beter, maar toch mocht het niet baten. Rond middernacht is ze gestorven. Slaap zacht, Rozemieke!

Mona gave birth to 9 puppies: 5 boys and 4 girls! They all look great and weigh from 600 to 820 grams!

We gave them a coulourd colar to seprate them:

Green: male: birthweight of 700g

Purple: female: 820g

Yellow: female: 730g

Orange: male: 680g

Pink: female: 600g

Red: male: 670g

Lila: female: 700g

Lightblue: male: 800g

Blue: male: 790g

Getting ready for the big day

Alles staat klaar voor de komst van de puppy's. De puppybak is klaar: er ligt een antislip in, kleine speeltjes (nog niet voor de eerste dagen natuurlijk, maar ze liggen er al in)! En de puppydoeken en -flesjes liggen ook al klaar! Laat maar komen, Mona!

4 days...

Nog 4 dagen en dan weten we hoeveel puppy's er in Mona's - nu toch wel héél dikke - buik zitten!

Ze geraakt bijna niet meer recht, doet zelfs geen moeite om recht te staan als ze eten krijgt...

Maar in de zon liggen dat gaat nog wel, da's nog altijd het leukste dat er is!

4 days until D-day! Then we will finaly know how many puppies there are in Mona's belly! She doesn't get up easily anymore, she even doesn't bother to get up to eat anymore...

But she still loves to just lay in the sun! Heaven!

Mona shares food

When she decided to eat this morning, Mona took a bit of food in her mouth and took it into the livingroom. I thought she was just gonna eat that little bit of food there, but she dropped it in front of her litterbox, that's already standing there. Then she ate the rest of her food, went back to the litterbox, found out the food was still lying there (kind of a miracle with another dog and a cat in the same room, but those guys are scared of her, so maybe not such a miracle after all... ;) ) and then she looked around a bit and ate the food she dropped...

Deze morgen wilde Mona aanvankelijk niet eten. Toen ze besloot dat toch te gaan doen, nam ze wat brokken in haar mond en ging naar de living. Ik dacht dat ze het gewoon daar ging opeten, maar ze liet het op de grond vallen voor de puppybak, die daar al klaar staat. Daarna kwam ze terug en at de rest van haar eten op. Als alles op was, ging ze terug naar de living en daar lag het beetje eten dat ze daar had gelegd nog. (Klein wonder met een kat en een andere hond in hetzelfde huis, maar als je weet dat die dan weer bang zijn voor haar, dan misschien toch niet zo'n wonder... ;) ) Ze keek wat rond en at dan dat beetje eten toch zelf op...

Gek, hé!?

Mona's feeling fat...

Mona's easily irritated now because she cannot move the way she wants to. She only starts to eat when you give it to her when she's already standing up otherwise she waits until there's something she HAS to stand up for and then she starts to eat...

She snores sooooo loud we have to put our tv louder at night... She always snored a little bit, but now she's really pushing it!!!

Sometimes she seeks comfort, so she lays her head really close to Viggo's or she comes to us to cuddle a little bit.

This afternoon I took this pictures when she pushed her bottom against Viggo. Really cute, because he looked at her like 'If this makes you feel a little bit more comfortable, than it's okay!' (He's getting tired of her snoring too...)

And it did indeed make her feel more comfortable because she only snored a little bit! And Viggo and Mona slept the whole afternoon, almost in silence... ;)

Mona The Cookie Monster

So I came home today, the whole kitchen floor was messy. Mona took all the dirt out of the bin (with a little help from her friends of course) ... She does that every ones in a while, but now she's pregnant she does it more often. Yesterday evening she did it twice, but then we were right there so we could still stop her in time. But now... I forgot to put something on top of the bin.

What will become of those poor little puppies she's carrying??? What will they think about their mom?

Aaaah, she's obviously very hungry and all she want to do is take care of her unborn kids, so I can't be mad at her! How can you be mad at a pregnant lady who looks so cute with her fat belly! ;)

Mona Vreetmachine

Ik kom thuis van school, de hele keukenvloer vol vuil. Wat was hier gebeurd? Mona had de vuilbak leeggehaald, met de hulp van haar vriendjes natuurlijk. Ze heeft dat wel eens eerder gedaan, maar nu ze zwanger is doet ze 't vaker. Gisterenavond heeft ze 't twee keer geprobeerd, maar dan waren we vlakbij dus konden we haar nog tegenhouden. Maar nu was ik dus vergeten om iets op de vuilbak te leggen zodat ze er niet aankon...

Wat moet er van haar puppy's worden? Wat zullen die wel niet van hun mama denken?

Ach, Mona heeft duidelijk altijd honger en eigenlijk wil ze gewoon graag goed voor haar ongeboren kindjes zorgen, dus kan ik eigenlijk niet boos op haar zijn. Wie kan er nu boos zijn op een zwangere dame met een schattige dikke buik? ;)
